{"id":14,"date":"2007-10-27T15:48:20","date_gmt":"2007-10-27T14:48:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/playthinklearn.net\/?p=14"},"modified":"2008-06-27T10:40:35","modified_gmt":"2008-06-27T10:40:35","slug":"home-and-dry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/playthinklearn.net\/blog\/home-and-dry\/","title":{"rendered":"Home and dry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Well I&#8217;m now back home from the conference and more or less recovered, so I thought I&#8217;d take the opportunity to note down some of the key ideas that I want to look into further.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I was recommended to have a look at the work of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.humphrey.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">Nicholas Humphrey<\/a>, on consciousness.<\/li>\n<li>A couple of game engines to investigate are the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/CryENGINE\" target=\"_blank\">CryEngine<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ogre3d.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">OGRE<\/a> open-source 3d engine.<\/li>\n<li>There seems to be a growning interest in Alternate Reality Games, with interesting presentations from Kurt Squire (a mystery game on water pollution) and <span>Jantina Huizenga from the University of Amserdam (<a href=\"http:\/\/freq1550.waag.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">teaching history of Amsterdam<\/a>).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>The <a href=\"http:\/\/gameslearningsociety.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Games, Learning and Society<\/a> conference is one to think about in future.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>It might also be worth reading up on the work of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Edward_Castronova\" target=\"_blank\">Edward Castronova<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Will_Wright_(game_designer)\" target=\"_blank\">Will Wright<\/a>, and the literaure on <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Social_capital\" target=\"_blank\">social capital<\/a>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span><\/span>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.academic-conferences.org\/pdfs\/ECGBL-booklet.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">abstracts<\/a> from the conference are available on the conference web site.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Well I&#8217;m now back home from the conference and more or less recovered, so I thought I&#8217;d take the opportunity to note down some of the key ideas that I want to look into further.
