The plot centres around the family of an author, who wrote a set of children&#8217;s books in the 1980s (The Hayseed Chronicles). While this a pretty good holiday-reading-type novel, what really impressed me is the online backstory that they have created through a <a href=\"http:\/\/mrtoppit.wordpress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">blog<\/a> about the original books, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/thebigblogofhayseed\/\" target=\"_blank\">flickr photostream<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/thebigblogofhayseed\/3254918963\/\" target=\"_blank\">real-life artifacts<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve just finished reading Mr Toppit, by Charles Elton.
