{"id":199,"date":"2011-02-08T08:41:38","date_gmt":"2011-02-08T08:41:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/playthinklearn.net\/?p=199"},"modified":"2011-02-08T08:41:38","modified_gmt":"2011-02-08T08:41:38","slug":"games-on-a-budget","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/playthinklearn.net\/blog\/games-on-a-budget\/","title":{"rendered":"Games on a budget"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s some way off yet, but this year&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.academic-conferences.org\/ecgbl\/ecgbl2011\/ecgbl11-home.htm\" target=\"_blank\">European Conference on Game-Based Learning<\/a> will be hosted in Athens on 20-21 October. As well as the general <a href=\"http:\/\/www.academic-conferences.org\/ecgbl\/ecgbl2011\/ecgbl11-call-papers.htm\" target=\"_blank\">call for papers<\/a>, there are a number of mini-tracks, including one chaired by myself and Alex Moseley.<\/p>\n<p>The call says:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Across the world, education is being hit hard by funding and quality crises, with increasing pressure to increase student achievement with decreasing resources. The feasibility of game-based learning can be limited by the cost of design, development or purchase. We welcome papers to this stream which focus on case studies and theoretical proposals for game-based methods which will be cheap and effective enough to be persuasive choices in this environment.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>Topics include, but are not limited to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The development of games cheaply (including simple games, non\/low-digital games, alternative reality games, simple\/mixed media etc.<\/li>\n<li>Using game-based techniques in traditional teaching<\/li>\n<li>Theories and methods for efficient design and integration of games into the curriculum<\/li>\n<li>Case studies of successful, efficient and economical game-based learning<\/li>\n<li>Examples of low-cost technological solutions for game development<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>More details are available in the full <a href=\"https:\/\/playthinklearn.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/ecgbl11-minitrack_cfp-games_on_a_budget.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">mini-track call<\/a> (pdf).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s some way off yet, but this year&#8217;s European Conference on Game-Based Learning will be hosted in Athens on 20-21 October.
