{"id":396,"date":"2016-01-07T12:59:35","date_gmt":"2016-01-07T12:59:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/playthinklearn.net\/?p=396"},"modified":"2016-01-07T14:18:48","modified_gmt":"2016-01-07T14:18:48","slug":"rethinking-the-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/playthinklearn.net\/blog\/rethinking-the-conference\/","title":{"rendered":"Rethinking the conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For years (and particularly when I&#8217;m about to give a conference presentation), I&#8217;ve wondered how it is that despite knowing that talking at people isn&#8217;t an effective way to give or receive information, we still create academic conferences that are\u00a0predominantly based on presentations. In understand that we&#8217;re all busy, presentations are (relatively) easy to put together, they&#8217;re what much of the audience expect, and often the only thing that will allow us to be funded to attend.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m very excited to be working on the <a href=\"http:\/\/conference.playthinklearn.net\/blog\/\" target=\"_blank\">Playful Learning conference<\/a> with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sste.mmu.ac.uk\/staff\/staffbiog\/default.asp?StaffID=361\" target=\"_blank\">Prof Mark Langan<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.le.ac.uk\/offices\/lli\/about\/staff-profiles\/alex-moseley\" target=\"_blank\">Alex Moseley<\/a>, which aims to provide a platform for people to <a href=\"http:\/\/conference.playthinklearn.net\/blog\/call-for-papers\" target=\"_blank\">try something different<\/a> (and potentially fail too, that&#8217;s okay).\u00a0We have playful and inspiring <a href=\"http:\/\/conference.playthinklearn.net\/blog\/keynotes\" target=\"_blank\">keynotes<\/a> lined up,and a brilliant and creative <a href=\"http:\/\/conference.playthinklearn.net\/blog\/committee\" target=\"_blank\">conference committee<\/a> supporting us.
