I&#8217;ve been away twice in the last ten days to two different &#8211; and equally awesome events.<\/p>\n<p>First, I was presenting at the Society for Research in Higher Education (SRHE) conference at a lovely (if rather troublingly opulent) spa resort in south Wales.\u00a0The people I met were friendly, the papers I saw were generally of good quality and well-presented. There was wine. What more do you want in a conference?<\/p>\n<p>I presented\u00a0with the wonderful <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RikkeToftN\" target=\"_blank\">Rikke Toft N\u00f8rg\u00e5rd<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ToftClaus\" target=\"_blank\">Claus Toft-Nielsen<\/a> from Aarhus University on <em>Playful Teaching between Freedom and Control: Exploring the Magic Circle in Higher Education<\/em>. Our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.srhe.ac.uk\/conference2016\/abstracts\/0175.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">paper<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/presentation\/d\/1KIG_FFDokEEcIvAGB9_kdkex2W-tMlbioCtWPa8_X7c\/pub?start=false&amp;loop=false&amp;delayms=5000&amp;slide=id.g19f053f3f2_0_75\" target=\"_blank\">slides<\/a> are both available online.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week I attended the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.co.uk\/e\/a-make-and-do-escape-room-camp-residential-tickets-26408357107#\" target=\"_blank\">Make and Do Escape Room Camp<\/a><\/em> organised by the equally wonderful <a href=\"http:\/\/gamesforlibraries.blogspot.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">Andy Walsh<\/a>, which provided the rare opportunity to take two days out with like-minded people and actually make stuff. I came away buzzing with\u00a0ideas and enthusiasm.\u00a0This the sort of creative space &#8211; magic circle &#8211; that we really need to make more effort to build into academic practice. My resolution for 2017 is definitely to make sure I build\u00a0this sort of play space into my working practice every month (the easy bit) &#8211; and I will not cancel it or feel guilty about it (the hard bit).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So, I&#8217;ve finally got a spare moment to sit down and write.
